Spring 2017 is set for a cold snap

It's Spring. The daffodils are blooming and stove owners everywhere are spring cleaning their stoves as they shouldn't be used as much now.

However, we are set for a cold snap in the next few weeks and well into May! So get your stove ready for firing up again!

Heavy and Wintery Showers ahead

According to the Met Office, we can expect heavy and wintry showers from next week. Temperatures will also plummet and remain low for a few weeks. Temperatures will be approximately between 2 and 5 degrees lower than normal for this time of year and there will be widespread night-time frost. Not ideal for spring time and especially as the weather has been so mild the last couple of weeks.

Top tops: Be ready for the cold snap

  1. Ensure you have enough firewood. Many stove owners start collecting and seasoning their firewood from early spring. But don't forget you need some firewood already seasoned. If you want to know how to season your firewood, then head over to our great blog post for top tips on seasoning firewood.
  2. Make sure your stove is still in top condition. We previously blogged about spring cleaning your stove. If you have already done this, then you will know that your stove is in tip-top condition. However, if you haven't, then you need to give your stove a quick visual inspection. And if you need spare parts, then get the ordered asap.
  3. Check your flue and chimney. If you haven't had it swept yet, give it a quick check and get your stove fired up as a test. Last thing you need is a blockage when the cold snap hits.

Our number one top tip to combat the frosty mornings

A great tip for the frosty nights is to keep your stove burning all night. This has to be carefully done and you need to ensure everything is done safely. However, it can be done and you can wake up to a lovely smoldering fire on the coming frosty mornings. Check out our blog post on keeping your wood burning stove burning all night.
